When Urwerk’s sci-fi inspired pieces first appeared in the 1990s, it seemed difficult to envisage a more futuristic watch – but, to my mind at least, this 2007 UR-103 now looks positively vintage (in a good way).
Number 12 of the 25 first series models in white gold, this example was in excellent condition but had clearly been worn and loved.
Inspired by the movement of the planets, the display takes the form of three discs mounted on a revolving cross which align with minute markers to show the time, the indications being visible through a windscreen-like sapphire crystal. Turning the watch over, meanwhile, reveals a more classical minutes and seconds display, plus a power reserve gauge.
