Breitling’s Battle of Britain 75th anniversary Navitimer edition raised significant money for the RAF Benevolent Fund, earning the the brand’s UK team a prestigious award
Breitling joined the likes of Thales, BAE Systems and Sheppard Neame in picking up an award from the RAFBF for their fund-raising Battle of Britain project – here’s why:
This, you might have noticed, is not your average Navitimer. Marking 75 years since the Battle of Britain began, this is part of a limited edition that will raise funds for the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund, the RAF’s leading welfare charity which provides financial, practical and emotional support to the whole RAF family.
Breitling’s total hold on all matters aviation may have keen competition these days, but the Swiss brand has heritage and a position in the aviation industry like no other – it helps to have been a supplier under the then War Office’s procurement scheme for watches and cockpit chronographs, to have your own jet-display team, wing-walking team and both a DC-3 and a Super-Constellation flying around under your colours.
Launching the special Navitimer on Friday July 10th – the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Britain’s start – Breitling put on an impressive show of just how deeply they are respected in the world of military aviation; the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight dropped in after their formal flypast over Buckingham Palace (where surviving members of “The Few” were being honoured), while MH434 provided an escort for the journey to North Weald, one of the key fighter stations in the battle.
This version of the Navitimer has both official Royal Air Force Battle of Britain 75th anniversary crests in a rare execution across the sub-dials at 3 & 9 o’clock, while the caseback has an anniversary crest alongside the unique edition number of each timepiece.
Funds raised through a 10% donation from sales of the watch have been earmarked to help develop and run two seaside respite apartments for serving members of the RAF and their families. The Navitimer Battle of Britain Limited Edition Series will be sold exclusively through the Breitling Boutique and stockists in the UK.
The watch will be priced at £6480 on a leather strap, £7490 on a bracelet and limited to 75 watches. Number 1/75 will be auctioned to benefit the RAFBF at the RAF’s official Commemorative Gala Dinner on 17th September, 2015.
