A big name from dive watch history, Doxa is reaping rewards from limited-edition online releases

With last year’s Black Lung reissue, Doxa joined the exclusive club of watch brands whose online limited edition release sold out within 24 hours of going on sale. Given the brand’s deep archives, there’s little surprise that they’re looking to strike gold a second time, with the SUB 300 Searambler ‘Silver Lung’ going on sale on the 23rd July, with a pre-sale price of $2,190 USD. Much like its sibling, the Silver Lung is being created in partnership with the legendary dive gear manufacturer Aqua Lung, featuring the familiar black and yellow Aqua Lung U.S. Divers logo on its silver dial between seven and eight o’clock.
Much like the Black Lung, this Silver Lung is a nod back to another very rare watch that was part of Doxa’s earliest dive watch releases back in 1967. Though the name Doxa was first registered in 1910, it wasn’t until the mid-sixties that the brand jumped on a collaboration to create approachable dive watches for both professional and recreational divers, and in many ways it was these sort of collaborative efforts with Aqua Lung that cemented Doxa’s position in the era as a go-to in the category.
Unlike many brands that have turned to modern interpretation of vintage pieces, Doxa continues to stick with the true-to-original approach. The Silver Lung uses the brand’s slim 42mm diameter SUB case, a sawtooth bezel, and of course their instantly recognisable bi-color decompression scale bezel insert. The classic Doxa beads-of-rice bracelet is also fitted to the model, which still ranks as one of the most comfortable watch bracelets on the market. Powering the new release is (as usual) a workhorse ETA 2824 self-winding movement of top grade with COSC chronometer certification. Aside from a bubble domed sapphire crystal and the aforementioned certification, this thing is about as vintage-spec as you can get, albeit backed by a new factory warranty.
Limited to only 300 pieces worldwide, it’s fairly safe to speculate that these new watches won’t last long. While Doxa’s orange dials are generally their more widely known and sought after, the silver sun-burst dial of the Silver Lung is miles more wearable as a daily tool watch, making it more approachable to even the less die-hard Doxa fans. We do know that the neon yellow SUB 300T Poseidon took a touch longer to move on account of its bright and polarising dial, however even there all the releases found a new home before long. While this is technically a pre-order sale, Doxa is expecting to deliver the new Silver Lung watches in August, so you won’t be waiting long if you decide to pull the trigger.
